Wandering Camera – Music

Violin | Whims And Fancies

Today’s planned Wandering Camera would have required rummaging through photos.  I am under the weather, and not feeling like sitting at the computer much.  I have been playing music quite a bit to while away the sick days.  So, here’s a little peek into my musical world.

This is my old girl.  She was quite scratched up when I got her.  A luthier spruced her up and updated her with new rosewood accessories for me, even customised her a little for my smaller hands.  My violin and I have wonderful times playing together.

Violin In Colour Pencil | Whims And Fancies

Violin is the first musical instrument I learned to play and it will always be my first love.  I made this card using wax colour pencils and turpentine.  I can foresee an enlarged oil painting in my future.

Cello Watercolour Sketch | Whims And Fancies

This was a quick sketch of a cello.  I was too eager to try out a new set of watercolour paints I got at the time as a gift, so I didn’t care to draw it very correctly.  It’s a quick sketch at best, but serves as a reminder to be playful.

Electric Guitar | Whims And Fancies

A few years back, when I was living in Los Angeles, I visited a music store in Hollywood.  It had a good selection of used instruments.  I got a beautiful Fender guitar to play with.  I love the haunting sound of it.

Musical Instruments Quilt Pattern | Whims And Fancies

These are the musical instruments quilt patterns I have created so far.  I have gotten requests for a few more.  They are definitely in the works.

Musical Instruments Quilt Pattern | Whims And Fancies

This is Supermassive Black Hole.  I named it after one of my favourite songs by Muse.

Piano And My Cat | Whims And Fancies

I play music for myself, but occasionally I have a listener silently sitting by me while I play the piano.  It’s very everyday, but exceptionally special for me.

I hope you liked the photographic journey of today’s Wandering Camera.  I will reply to your comments and visit you back as soon as I start feeling better.

Your paper pieced designs are just stunning. My son just started playing the tuba this year (which is pretty funny because he weighs about 65 pounds :)

I hope you are feeling better now. No fun to be sick. But how nice to play music while you are healing.

Lovely to hear of your relationship with music, listening and playing and to see that it slides into your arts as well is wonderful.

Soma – sorry you have been under the weather, but you still managed to put together an inspirational post! I admire anyone that can play a violin and a Fender, and quilt into the bargain!

Sorry you’re not feeling well. Your violin is absolutely gorgeous. I played for about 13 years, but I never was all that into it. All I wanted was to play piano, but because my mother played violin (and loves it) she was adamant that I would too. Happy PPF!

Oh you happy one! Plaingy music by youself…
I honore people with musical instruments
That was always my dream, unfortunately my hearing is too bad for tuning string instruments (I only know it in theory) – I always longed for a piano as a child, but my mother did not like music and forbade it to me. I was not even allowed to listen to the radio. So I tried to “read” music after grades, learned notes by myself …
Later life required other things from me, my wish was no longer a priority and today I only play CD’s. Sigh!
Sometimes still dreaming of a piano …
Hope, your health is just better, get well soon :)

      Mascha,

Mascha, I too dreamed of playing piano when I was a child. I would even pretend to play one. Alas, I have never achieved that dream and fear it is too late now to learn. But, like you, I sometimes still dream of one. Love this post and so happy that some have had this opportunity!

Music soothes the soul, doesn’t it, as does your posts, Soma, which overspill with your beautiful creative works. All are enchanting, but I must say your “quick” (really??) sketch of the cello oozing with all that watercolour gorgeousness is….well …….that soothes my soul. Hope you are feeling more like your old self very soon.
