Yarning For December

Knitted pullover for men | Whims And Fancies

Knitting is such a comforting and calming activity for me.  A few years ago, I started knitting and it stuck.  The prospect of working a piece of string with a couple of sticks to create a knitted cloth fascinates me.  Learning how to knit actual wearable clothes is quite exciting.  It is such a forgiving hobby too.  Worst case scenario, all you have to do is rip it apart and restart.

I did a lot of knitting in the month of December.  I showed a few photos in the previous Wandering Camera post.   I thought it would be nice to elaborate on my yarn endeavours of December.

I had been working on this sweater for my husband for quite a while now.  Following the pattern resulted in a really baggy sleeve.  Since my knitting skills are not much beyond apprentice level, I had to rip the first sleeve a couple of times before the sizing finally worked. I finished the sweater a few days ago.  I will share more once I block it.

Easy crochet blocks | Whims and Fancies

I was going through my cabinet and I found this set of crochet blocks.  I love the earthiness of the yarns and the simplicity of these blocks.  I don’t remember when I worked on them.  I also don’t remember why I stopped.  My last crochet project was so long ago, I don’t even remember how to crochet anymore.  So after a quick refresher course, I am ready to work on this one again.

Crochet Lace Blanket | Whims And Fancies

This is the one and only crochet project I have ever done.  If I was able to make this, then surely I should be able to finish the easy single crochet patchwork blanket.

Fingerless Mittens | Whims And Fancies

I really love making fingerless mitts.  They leave my fingers open to work my camera while keeping my palms warm.  As far as I am concerned, one can never have too many fingerless mitts.

I made this pair to give away as a celebration of Wandering Camera.  The winner of these mitts is Alycia.

I started working on another sweater already.  I hope you are getting to work on something that is soothing for you.

I am also linking up with linky parties on my Events And Links page.

Love the mittens. May have to ask my mommy to make me some as I have no knitting talents!

I love knitting as well, but I am way behind all of my projects! One of them is a scarf for my daughter and… well it will be ready for august!! Just in time for the next winter! ;)

I like your fingerless mittens. Nice color. I like knitting but had to stop because I started itching a lot from the yarn.

If you learned knitting first, crochet is a cinch:):) Great summery (?) blanket! Thank you for sharing your yarn adventures with ALL SEASONS – Am now looking into weaving and spinning – what holds me back is buying all the tools. Have a great week!

I never knitted but I used to crochet. My arthritis bothers me too much to do it now but I miss the yarn in my hands.

You should be proud of yourself for fixing and refixing the sleeve, and finishing the other, older projects. They all look great! Thanks so much for sharing on Midweek Makers

I love knitting. I’m a newbie and am learning a lot…thank goodness for Google and YouTube videos! I haven’t attempted a sweater yet, but I would love to. I just recently finished a scarf/wrap and I’m obsessed with it. Thank you for sharing your projects! Makes me want to go find more gorgeous yarn. :)

Your yarn projects are wonderful, Soma. That is a fantastic jumper and your crochet is really pretty. I completely agree with you. It is an amazing thing that basically a piece of string, with only the help of a couple of sticks, can turn into a beautiful, wearable garment. I also love how you can frog so even things that don’t go to plan can be discarded without ruining the original yarn. I’m sorry there wasn’t a Wool on Sundays link last week. I have put one up now :) x

I love to knit too. I really like the yarn in those yarn squares. Like you, it has been awhile since I did any crochet. Those sleeveless mittens are so nice. I could use some of those right now!

I love those earthy-coloured squares. I also love knitted/crochet blankets but have never thought to try making one. Your knitting, though, does make me wonder about giving it a go.

You are making so beautiful things! Your crochet is especially fabulous!

It is amazing what lovely woollies a bit of string and a couple of sticks morphs into, isn’t it. Your husband’s jumper, from what I see is lovely and you are a wee bit clever picking up crochet again, after such a long time and working out how to do it. Love those fingerless mitts; great colour and pattern. I look forward to seeing your husband’s completed sweater.

It was lovely to see the projects you have made Soma…very beautiful items. The yarns you use are gorgeous. I’m joining donated squares at the moment for the knitting charity I belong to…a bit boring, but so important to the needy. I have future project ideas stored in my head atm

    Did your cards arrive?

You “almost” inspire me to take up knitting! Your projects are beautiful!

    Lovely knitting projects, Soma!
It’s interesting to pick up something that you have not worked on in awhile. Have fun with your crocheting.
