A little self-inflicted toe mishap has me currently home-bound. I am finding myself knitting a lot during the times when I would rather be outside hiking a beloved trail. That’s not so bad, since I managed to finish this sweater for my husband before the passing of another winter.

Three years ago, while visiting a yarn store, I found myself buying a set of yarn to make a sweater for my husband. A daunting prospect considering all I could make at the time were simple scarves. A year and a half later as a more confident knitter I started looking for a pattern, but I couldn’t find even one for the amount of yarn I had purchased.

Last week did not afford me any opportunity to sit at the sewing table for any length of time required to work on any project. We live in a much cooler place now and I need to make a few more quilts. I am working on them, just not at the moment. I need to keep my hands busy, and knitting needles are perfect for filling in those small waiting moments.

I bought this yellow yarn to make a pair of mittens, but I fell in love with the colour so much that I got a few more skeins to make a sweater for myself. Since the pattern is written for a negative-ease fit and I like to wear layered clothing, I made it a little larger than the suggested size and added a few extra stitches to the underarm area. Once I got over figuring out the sizing, it was a very quick knit with this chunky yarn. I am in love with seamless sweater patterns, by the way. It’s so nice not to have to join all the pieces afterwards.

Here it is, my first finished pullover!! The kitting itself was actually quite easy. I didn’t want to get into too much shaping with my first pullover project, so I used a very simple pattern for a loose style one. I had to edit the pattern a lot to make it the correct size though. Something always crops up, right?!

I think it probably took me about the same amount of time to sew the pieces together as it did to knit the individual pieces. I was being very fastidious about lining everything up, so I attached and removed the stitches a thousand times I until I was happy with them. I learned a lot about putting all the pieces together and also about how to weave the loose ends of yarn properly. Knitting the neck was easiest.
