Hi Everyone!  In a world of beautiful colors that surround us, it is hard to imagine any scene in just one color.   The reason I like black and white photos is because they simplify the world around me.  In doing so they create more depth, perspective and focus.  I often use that practice in paintings by using a single color.  I thought I'd share a few examples of that today with some of my painting practices, along with a few more black and white photos.

Shop Hay Bales Of Aberdeenshire

Over the last few years, while travelling in Europe during autumn, I have come to love a few landscape features.  Living in a country where hay bales are mostly of plain square shape and stacked up high on top of each other, I am always on the lookout for the round ones when driving through the European countryside.

Welcome to this month’s Wandering Camera!  A couple of days ago I was plopped on the sofa, balancing my sketchbook, a tiny jar of water, palette, paint and brush on a little board.  While looking out toward the blooming flowers in our modest little flower garden, I was doing a practice sketch of a Shooting Star.  That set the stage for today’s Wandering Camera.

There is an easy mountain trail about a half hour’s drive away from our home.  I love to spot various wildflowers along that trail and photograph them.

Oil painting was definitely not an option for me because of the odoriferous fumes generated from traditional oil painting products.  So for the longest time I shied away from oil.  When I learned about water soluble oil where the paint washes off with just water, I had to give that a try.  I thought I’d share my approach and experience with you in case you have wanted to try oil paining but, just like me, didn’t take the plunge due to the fumes.
