Little Stories are posts where I share odds and ends from my life and my atelier.  Since I missed making posts in October and November, I will share two Little Stories back to back.   While I am working on large projects, I like to keep a few small projects handy.   When I need a break, I switch over to the small ones.  Specially when I am stuck on a project, taking a break and going back to it after a while helps me see it from a new perspective.  Before we continue with the adventures of The Girl And Her Cat, let me share a few small finishes with you.

I seriously needed to turn off the world and get away from it all.  Find some comfort in the little things.  I worked in the garden while listening to the trees swishing in the morning breeze, my favourite way to wake up.   I painted a bookmark and revisited my Simple365 photos of things that make me happy.  Let me share these little stories with you in the hope of bringing some joy to your world as well.

The stunning architectures of the city of Oxford have inspired many before me.  I was not surprised to find myself wanting to paint the iconic buildings of the city for a new bookmark.  Bookmarks are small, therefore great for playing with colours and techniques. This is my approach to painting a bookmark depicting the skyline of this dreamlike city.

I was not too fastidious with the sketch itself; I wanted to get started painting quickly.  The piece was going to be mostly monochromatic.  I started by making a value drawing in pencil.  The lightest buildings are the farthest out and the darkest ones are the closest to the viewer.  Once that was done, I started selecting my paints.

Purchase Bobcat Pattern

I love cats and that includes big cats too.  In March I got a request for a bobcat quilt pattern for a school mascot and accepted it right away.  I wanted to give my block a stylized feel, so instead of using fabrics that would resemble fur, I focused mostly on just the colours.

The pattern is for a 16″ block.  It has only a few seam alignment points, which makes the block easy to sew regardless of how complicated it looks.
