Very often, a little story quietly finds its way into my mind and becomes the heart of my artwork.  In that fashion, a story about a little penguin called Glen who roams the rugged Scottish countryside popped into my head while I was working on a set of penguin quilt patterns.  That reminded me of my first visit to the Dryburgh Abbey in Scotland.  Last week, I hand-made books with my painting of its weathered stones as the cover, feeling the spirit of the place, and being reminded to pause and note the details we so often rush past.  I will be hosting an art event in September where we can just take a few moments during the day to breathe and create.

So much of my time is spent on-screen with researching and working that some days it leaves my eyes tired and my head jammed shut.  As much as I love getting lost in the digital world, I do need breaks to avoid burnout.  For that, I have relied on drawing and writing all my life.   These stolen creative moments help me reconnect with my love of slow living.  It doesn't matter where I am, I always keep a small sketching kit in my bag.  When I started making my own books, I tailor made them with my favorite paper.  Today I would like to share some of my book binding process, my on-the-go sketching kit, and the new books I recently made featuring my watercolor paintings as the cover art.  Read on for a nice coupon code to use in my shop.

As soon as I come back from the mountains, I longingly wait for the days when I get to make the drive back there again.  During one of those waiting periods, I designed and made this book.   I also play music.   Thoughts of the mountains and music coupled together to make something new.   This is the story of this book - "High Mountains and Flowing Water."

I walk and run amongst trees while foraging and collecting.  At home, I spend time experimenting with the finds, as well as learning about tree lore.  Much of what I am sharing today is from that world of mine - photos, quilting, pigment making, as well as another set of Simple365 b&w photos of my everyday life.
